Question
The aim of this research is to utilize the new nursing assessment form developed according to the 13 domain of NANDA-I nursing diagnoses for the novice nursing students in the clinical practice. Will the new nursing assessment form developed according to the 13 domain NANDA-I Nursing diagnoses help the novice nursing students uphold appropriate nursing diagnoses for their patients?

Results / Findings
This research is still in the data collection step and will be finish by the month of December 2011, in accordance with the clinical practice rotation of the students.

Discussion / Conclusion
In Indonesia, nursing students enter the clinical practice after they finish the four years academic phase. They will spend one to two years to learn in the clinical practice to be qualified graduated as a nurse. In the first experience, most of the time novice students getting confuse in doing assessment and upholding nursing diagnoses. This confusion possibly because of the nursing assessment guideline which was not formed according to the NANDA-I nursing diagnoses it self. So it was hard for the students to identify the emerging patterns to get the potential problems. This research developed a new nursing assessment form. This form developed based on the 13 domain of NANDA-I nursing diagnoses. This new nursing assessment form is expected to help the novice students identify the emerging pattern of their assessment and uphold the nursing diagnoses.

Methods
This is a quasi experimental research with a case control approach. At the end of the academic phase (fourth year) right before entering the clinical phase, students in both case and control group were given an assignment.  A simulation case was given to them. They were assigned to do nursing assessment and uphold nursing diagnoses. This was served as a pre test. The assigned faculty gave them score based on the scoring guide. After that, in the clinical practice the students in case group will utilize the new nursing assessment form when dealing with their patients. The students in the control group will utilize the usual nursing assessment form. After 9 weeks of clinical practice rotation, students in both groups will be given a post test to do nursing assessment and uphold nursing diagnoses. The assigned faculty will give the students score based on the scoring guide. Focus Group Discussion to the students will be conducted every 3 weeks to get the qualitative data of the students’ feelings in utilizing the new nursing assessment form. Paired t test technique will be utilized to analyze the difference ability of the students in both groups in upholding nursing diagnoses.
